Algeria is following with concern the developments of the situation in Syria at a time when it is achieving a dynamic that aimed at finding a negotiated political solution between all the Syrian parties, Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, said.

Following the recent developments in Syria, Messahel said: “Algeria is following with concern the developments of the situation in Syria at a time when a dynamic that aimed at finding a negotiated political solution is reached between the Syrian parties. On Friday, the US military troops bombed Syrian military targets, especially the El Shairat military airport, claiming that it is the place from where the planes took off to implement a chemical attack on the city of Khan Sheikhun, as Damascus has denied responsibility for the attack, and after that positions of countries varied from the military action that was carried out by Trump administration, between supporters and opposition”.
Algeria expressed its rejection of military action, which was revealed in the statement of Messahel, which was quoted by APS on Sunday, as saying: “Algeria considers that any military escalation would only undermine the efforts of the international community in the framework of efforts to achieve a political settlement of the Syrian crisis. It is known that Algeria rejects the option of military operations, whatever its kind, which is the vision that is defended by in Libya. Algeria calls on the parties to the dialogue table and warns of the military action, which is also its position on the Yemeni crisis, which was translated by not engaging in the Storm of Hazm and the Islamic Alliance to fight ISIS, that were led by Saudi Arabia.
“Algeria, which always respects international law, states that the Syrian conflict will only be resolved through a political solution that is based on comprehensive dialogue, national reconciliation and the fight against terrorism”.
Algeria and the Assad regime have strong relationships that have not changed with the developments in Syria since 2011. It has kept its ambassador in Damascus. It received senior officials of the Assad regime, especially the Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, whose visit was limited only to Syria’s allies,  which are Russia, Iran and China, and before that it received the Mufti of the regime Badr al-Din Hassoun.
The visit, which led Minister Mesahel to Damascus, was a confirmation that “Algeria supports Syria in its ordeal against terrorism”.
Algeria also rejected the exclusion of Syria from its seat in the Arab League, which happened at the Doha Summit 2013 and Iraq only.
