General Director of Renewable Energies Development Centre Noureddine Yassaa Monday said the biggest concentrated solar energy plant ever of 30 kilowatts will be set up in the province of Ghardaia.

“The energy ministry plans to launch a national and international call for tender for achievement 4,000 megawatts of Solar PV as a first step,” Professor Yassaa told a national radio channel.

“What is new in this call for tender is that the kilowatt price will be in conformity with offers made by joint ventures. The offer will the lowest price will gain the projects,” he added.

He also said Algeria will reach about 400 megawatts after 20 solar towns are built in southern areas.

“The manufacturing of equipment for solar energies in Algeria is encouraged. Executives will be train to support investors in this field,” the Professor said.

He announced a partnership with South Korea to set up photoelectric stations on unused surfaces intended to lighten offices.

“The Renewable Energies Development Centre has research laboratories. It distributes solar panels to lighten houses in rural areas. It also builds fields to generate energy from wind,” said the Professor.
