Algeria’s politicians and candidates for the April 9 poll criticised the US for saying it is ‘concerned’ at fraud accusations during the electoral process.

Soltani: US lobbies reject democracies non-made in America

Abu Djerra Soltani, leader of Movement of the Society for Peace (MSP) said State Department spokesman’s remarks are meant to show to the public opinion that the US care about freedoms in the Third World.

“Some lobbies do not support democracies which are not made by the US administration,” he told Echorouk.

“What happened in Algeria is popular democracy with no involvement of any lobby,” he added.

Mohamed Said who run for office in the April 9 poll and received the smallest number of voices cast said the US is used to show scepticism about the Algerian elections.

“I do not care about the US statement but the best way to ensure a transparent poll is to exclude the interior minister Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni,” he added.

Moussa Touati, leader of the Algerian National Front (FNA), who was third in the poll said the Algerian elections are a domestic affair and they will not allow to use their claims “to weaken the Algerian system.”
