Algeria Prime Minister orders to pay employees salary in time

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal warned his cabinet, prefects and SGP board directors against manipulating salaries issue and neglecting adequate measures to settle it. “Social situation can not bear any escalation,” he said.

In an instruction transmitted to cabinet, prefects and SGPs board directors on April 29th; Sellal said salary problem should be solved as part of maintaining production and protecting workers’ right.

“I have learnt that some public companies can not pay salaries to their employees in time. That would raise anger among workers and hit social atmosphere,” said the instruction.

The Prime Minister admitted that provocation is not allowed in view of Algeria’s current social circumstances. “Current situation does not bear any work collective conflicts escalation in a way to hit economy.”

He ordered ministers to inform prefects and SGP board directors of the “necessity of regularly following companies and institutions situation.” He called for taking all appropriate measures to settle the salary issue as soon as possible.

Speaking about unions, Sellal said ministers and SGP board directors must encourage social partners to reactivate dialogue and consultation. They also must hold periodic meeting as set by law to examine companies socio-professional relations.

This comes as part of tens instructions gave by Sellal to the cabinet in order to meet people’s demands in conformity to the labor law.

Algeria experienced a series of protests for salary increase.
