Algeria reconsiders public rental housing grant commissions

Algerian government will review the work of public rental housing grants commissions to adapt them to the new procedures meant to organise the way they work.

  • Some of the new measures are: the limitation of the housing contracts to three years renewable, house evacuation in case of non-payment.
  • Algerian interior and housing ministries ordered to appoint members of the public rental housing commissions upon an order from prefects for three years renewable.
  • The commissions should hold meetings whenever it is necessary upon convocation from its head.
  • The meetings can be held only if all the commission’s members are present. Otherwise, the meeting is postponed to not more than eight days.
  • These measures come after the housing ministry issued stringent procedures as part of the public rental housing. Beneficiaries should pay 10,000 DZ for each room of the house while they must pay 5 percent from the renting money for each delayed month.
  • The renting contract is banned after three warnings with no result along with judicial prosecution, according to the law.
