Abdelmadjid Teboune, Algeria's housing minister

The Algerian housing ministry set an 18-day-deadline for companies to achieve the construction of housing compounds and equip them with security and medical centers. Building contractors who make a delay will undergo sanctions, Echorouk has learnt.

The Algerian housing ministry reduced deadlines to 18 months instead of 24. The safety of the new housing compounds constitutes a priority for the government. This comes as reports show that beneficiaries from a housing project call on the ministry to create security centers, according to sources.

Any delay in the projects delivery will be sanctioned. This would speed up the projects achievement and catch up the construction delay of 1.5 million houses, according to the Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.

The Housing Development and Improvement Agency (AADL) started sending notifications to a new group of 2001’s applicants in order to update their applications.

In the province of Sidi Belabes (west of Algeria), the Algerian housing minister Abdelmaldjid Teboune attended the launching of the first share of AADL’s national new program. A Chinese company will be in charge of building 1,500 houses in Imtiyaz area in the province.

Teboune has held a series of meetings with building contractors, construction companies and real-estate developers since he was appointed as Algeria’s housing minister. He is expected to meet with central and provincial directors next week to assess the first steps of the new work strategy.

The ministry plans to launch a 700,000-new-houses-program to be achieved by June 2013.
