Algeria should ban 5 ministries and create two ministerial poles, says expert
Independent expert at the Prime Ministry Abderrahmane Mebtoul warned against the repercussions of oil price fall. “The government should do something by banning a number of ministries and integrating them into other ministries,” he said in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, two days ago.
The expert said the financial situation in the country is very serious and needs emergency actions by stepping up expenses optimization measures.
He suggests to eliminate some ministries and create two big ministries such as the big education ministry which would include the education, higher education and scientific research ministries. A big economy ministry would include the industry, mines and energy ministry. Commerce and finance ministries could be integrated in one ministry as well.
He also called for creating regional chambers for commerce and industry to achieve local development. “This strategy would create new jobs and profits. It will also boost investment, create enterprises and refresh projects,” he said.
Mebtoul also suggested to ban the position of Prefect, saying it uses up big capacities and huge budgets. It can be replaced by the position of Regional Prefect.
He told Echorouk that the government should follow Germany and America’s models which were behind their strong economy.
