President of the National Association for Road Security Mohamed Azzouni called for setting up a court for drivers prosecuted for traffic code infraction.

“Drivers who commit an infraction should lodge a complaint for a specific institution. I call it a small court which can examine the complaint before making any final decision. This is done in France and Germany. Algeria used to have a similar court in the past. It was based in Algiers,” Azzouni said during a seminar about traffic accidents.

This comes as Algeria plans to issue a new road code based on points system.

“If authorities assign gendarmes and policemen to apply the points system, they should take training sessions. I suggest to appoint legal representatives to be members of the commission in charge of applying the points system,” he added.
