Algeria: Students attacked in sit-in out of higher education ministry

A group of men carrying knives Wednesday attacked students in a sit-in out of the higher education ministry in Algiers. Security forces prevented pharmacy students from staging a sit-in out of the Palais du Gouvernement and the President’s Office.

  • Hundreds of students staged a sit-in out of the higher education ministry on Wednesday in after their demands had not been satisfied.

  • A group of men threatened the students to attack them if they did not leave the place. The students’ representatives said the sit-in will continue because their demands are legitimate. Some of the protesters lost hope as their class mates were beaten and wounded in clashes.

  • The students asked the higher education minister to valorise high diplomas, guarantee a fair equivalence between the education classical system and the L. M. D system and improve training.

  • The students changed their place to the Palais du Gouvernement after they had been prevented from staying next to the President’s Office. Finally, they joined their class mated next to the ministry to claim their rights.
