Algeria tightens procedures of granting visas for French and US citizens

After the Algerian authorities have taken new measures concerning the granting of visas for French citizens wishing to enter Algeria, Echorouk reliable sources confirm that Algeria will start up from next April the application of US like procedure, as the Foreign Ministry sent instruction to its representatives in the French embassy and consulate in order to implement new procedures for the granting of visas to French and US citizens. 

• The new measures are an initial response, following the classification of Algeria among the danger zones because of terrorism.
• Under the new procedures the visa applicant must pay 80 euros for the expenses, 60 euros for the request and 20 euros for the file fee, however in the case of refusal the amount of money will not be compensated, as these procedures are the same applicable on the Algerians who wish to obtain a visas towards these countries, as well as obliging them to attach a residence certificate from an Algerian region to the visa file.
• Previously, Algeria expressed rejection of the US and French measures in the first official response by the Foreign Minister Mourad Medelsi, who called Washington to overcome the apparent contradiction in its policy towards Algeria, through considering it one of the leading countries in the fight against terrorism then including it within the list of dangerous countries.
