Algeria To Buy Modern Military Equipment For Tunisia

Tunisian Interior Ministry bought, since more than two months, a group of armoured vehicles, as part of a long-term future plan, that aimed to equip the internal security forces, and the National Guards, with the necessary equipment to counter terrorism in general and provide security in the country, as the deal took place in full coordination with Algeria.

A source that is familiar with the security and military secrets in Algiers told a Tunisian website that the deal was made through a branch of a Canadian mother company in the Maghreb region and West Africa, which is based in Algiers, expressing optimism that the deal will be the first step, noting that there other steps in horizon, and asserted that the Algerian official, political and military sides are interested in this deal, and insist on realising it in the best conditions, mainly on the cost level.

“It is the lowest compared to all the competitors. The delivery period does not exceed one month and a half, which is a record period with all standards, to provide the required number of specifications that are set forth within the contract.”

Acquisition of this group of vehicles was made in full coordination with the Algerian side that prepared for this process, to be considered a first step, which is very important at the strategic level, both within the bilateral plan for the integration for the equipment, or sending units in this or that country to manufacture an important part of this equipment and laminating them as well.

In answer to the Tunisian side’s ability to activate such equipment, and make it happen with excellence and representing a difference, both in terms of securing public stability or counter-terrorism accurately, the same source confirmed, that Tunisia is replete with competencies both on planning and leadership, or the level of implementation.

“Algeria is firmly reassured with the ability of the Tunisian side to increase the performance and hence increase the degree of cooperation, and therefore the joint effectiveness.”

Level of safety that is provided by this type of vehicles, and the ability to intervene both in the rugged environment, such as mountains, deserts, or in cities, is the best compared with their counterparts in the world.
