Algeria to create five new TV channels

Algeria will create five TV channels including a sports channel, State Secretary in charge of communication Azzedine Mihoubi said Wednesday.

• “This new tendency is meant to go with the evolution of the Algerian society in various levels and also to fill up the gap in the digital information,” Mihoubi told a national radio channel.

• “Algeria has five channels only out of 650 Arab satellite channels,” he added.

• He also said a government working group is detecting the Algerian people’s need to heavy media. “They are working on a study on increasing the number of public TV channels to 10.”

• “Algeria has now five channels: ENTV Algerie, Canal Algérie, A3, Tamazigh speaking channel and the Quran’s channel.”

• He believes that the creation of a sports TV channels is necessary due to the evolution of sports in Algeria.
•  
• “A TV sports channel can provide support to the sporst sector in the country.”
