Algeria to double million workers salary

Secretary General of the Algerian Workers’ National Union Abdelmadjid Sidi Said Thursday said more than a million workers in public service will be touched by the annulation of Article 87 bis and their salary may be doubled.

“This annulation will enhance purchasing power for people who have limited income in economic public sector and public service,” said Sidi Said.

He added that the reactivation of national economy and encouragement of local production will create 3 million new jobs within the next five years.

According to the national official at the Union Ahmed Guetiche, the article annulation will come into force early in 2015 after allocating money by the Algerian finance ministry.

Article 87 bis stipulates that minimum wage (SMIG) is calculated by counting basic salary to which all the bonuses are added. Its annulation will enable not take into account bonuses from the SMIG.

The minimum wage is fixed at 18,000 DZ.
