Algeria to modernize the tourism sector

The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Cherif Rahmani, introduced Monday the new actions and measures for the supplementary Finance Act of 2009 relating to tourism, as this sector benefited from tax cuts and incentives designed to meet the needs of domestic and foreign consumers and the globalization of the tourism, as well as preparation of the charter of tourism in the long term.

  • The total financial and economic measures carried by the Finance Act 2009 relating to the Algerian destination, discussed by the minister and officials of the Algerian tourism sector in Sofitel hotel, including reduction of the tax on the professional and handcrafts activities and lifting the level of tourism abroad.
  • The ministry also decided to make reductions on the added-value “TVA” from 17% to 7% for services related to tourism, catering, restaurants, travels and car renting for tourism transportation until the 31st of next December.
  • In the context of the dynamism associated with the scheme of quality of tourism, the ministry scheduled the reduction of 3% and 4.5% in the proportion of profits and interests of bank loans for the works related to the modernization of tourism institutions and hotels, that would be established northern and southern localities. As well as making use of the value of reduction of customs’ rights for the requisition of equipment and importation of households, in the context of the modernization of the scheme of a qualitative Algerian tourism, according to the article 81 of the supplementary financial Code.
  • As for the strategy to develop the tourism investment, the content of the law defines the benefit from the operations of waiver of lands for tourism projects, in order to encourage the tourism sector in the highlands and south through 50% to 80% reduction.
