Algeria vaccinates pilgrims against swine flu

Algeria’s national committee for swine flu prevention will vaccinate all the Algerian pilgrims and provide them with surgical masks, official said Monday.

  •
  • “Saudi Arabia guaranteed to avoid contamination among the pilgrims,” Ismail Musbah told a radio channel.
  • “The committee did not give any instruction to stop the pilgrimage after a number of people were affected by the H1N1 virus,” he added.
  • He also said medical teams will be deployed in ports and ships to detect any contamination case.
  • “The committee will launch an awareness-raising campaign among pilgrims in collaboration with the religious affairs ministry and the pilgrimage office in the next few days.”
  • According to the official, the committee will step up prevention measures by reinforcing medical teams on medical centres in borders.
  • “Medical teams will be sent to summer camps. They will also keep watch on the participants in the 2nd Pan-African Cultural Festival in Algeria,” he added.
