Algeria will call on its scientific Diaspora to help in the developing process of the country
Algerian Prime Minister

The Algerian government has assigned a committee including the national solidarity and the Algerian community’s abroad ministry, the higher education ministry and the ministry of foreign affairs to entrust the Algerian embassies abroad with collecting data on Algerian scientists, their locations and their fields of study, as part of the Algerian president’s plan to repatriate them or at least draw benefit from their skills and know how.

  • Talking to Echourok on the sidelines of the International Day of Migrants, the National Solidarity Ministry’s General Secretary Abdellah Bouchenak Khelladi has declared that a survey over the Algerian nationals abroad, whose number is estimated at between 5 to 7 millions, is currently underway.
  • He went on saying that “ the survey is carried out in collaboration with Algerian association network established abroad and the relevant sectors alike in a move to index the greatest number of the Algerian nationals in order to assist them”.
  • M Bouchenak has indicated that United Nations have estimated something like 214 millions people live outside their home countries, adding that 42 countries only have ratified the international agreement over the protection of the emigrant workers until 2009 including Algeria, that joined the movement in 2005.
  • For his part, the minister of solidarity has revealed that the committee, which will include representatives of the Algerian community from different corners of the world, will act as a tool to gather the Algerian Diaspora and give them the opportunity to take part in the developing process of the country.
