Algeria’s First Hybrid Solar-Gas Power Plant Completed
The first hybrid solar-natural gas power plant in Algeria due to be active within a couple of days, as works have been achieved.
Director of Energy and Mines in the natural gas town of Hassi Rmel, Mohamed Lourak, told Echorouk reporter that the $350 million project will generate 150 megawatts, of which 120 megawatts will be generated by gas turbines, while the rest 30 megawatts will be generated by solar energy.
The overall power will be integrated in the national network, Mr Mohammed Lourak added. The plant is set in Telghimt locality in Hassi Rmel, southeast of the country, over an area of 152 hectares, of which 18 hectares was reserved to host more than 3000 solar panels.
The giant project has been constructed within three years by the consortium of the Renewable Energies Group (Algeria) and Abengoa Group (Spain).
It is worth to mention that the government plans generating more than 10 thousand megawatts solar energy as by 2025.
