Algeria’s bill of food imports reached $384 million on November 2009, compared to $572 million during the same period of 2008, recording a decline of 32.87%, said the Algerian customs Tuesday.

TheNational Center of Information and Statistics explains that except for sugar imports, which rose by 64.58%, reachnig $79 million, compared to $48 million, all the products noticed a « significant » decline, especially meat, which declined by 72.22%, as it moved from $18 million during November 2008 to five million Dollars in November 2009.

The bill of milk and derivatives reached $28 million compared to $74 million, noticing a decline of 62.16%.

Imports of grain and semolina dropped by more than 61% to $106 million compared to $272 million.

This decline also affects the imports of pulses by 22.5%, as it reached $31 million, compared to $40 million in November 2009, compared to $24 million during the same month of 2008.

On the other hand, the import bill of several products, out of food, dropped including medicines, which fell by 12.12%, recording $116 million, compared to $132 million.

The center of customs noted that the same trend defined by the imports of tourism cars, as it declined by 43.61%, estimated to $75 million during the same period of 2008.

Algeria’s imports reached $2.47 billion in November 2009, compared to $3.52 billion during the same period of 2008, registering a decline of 29.9%.

In general, the total of Algeria’s imports reached $35.271 billion during the eleven first months of 2009 compared to $36.055 billion during the same period of 2008, registering a decline of 2.17%.
