Algerian army kills 21 terrorists

The Algerian army has killed more than 20 terrorists in separate operations in recent days, local media reported Wednesday.

  • The bodies of eight terrorists were discovered on Monday and Tuesday near Batna, 435 kilometres (270 miles) southeast of Algiers, after army shelling followed by a ground operation, El Watan daily reported.
  • The operations were carried out after two soldiers and two local policemen were seriously wounded in a bomb explosion in the area, L’Expression daily said.
  • Three other armed terrorists were killed in two ambushes near Tizi Ouzou, 110 kilometres (70 miles) east of the capital, on Monday night and at dawn on Tuesday, Liberte and Le Jeune Independant reported.
  • Le Temps said five terrorists had been already killed by the army on July 25 about 15 kilometres (nine miles) east of Tizi Ouzou.
  • The independent Arab daily El Khabar said five terrorists had also been killed during a bombardment near Medea, 90 kilometres (56 miles) south of Algiers, after reports of an armed group in the region.
  • Authorities had not immediately confirmed the reports.
