Algerian-Chinese Talks In The Field Of Peaceful Nuclear Energy

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Mr. Abdelkrim Ouaissi, received today, Sunday, the Vice President of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), Mr. Qiao Gang, in the presence of the Governor of the Atomic Energy Corporation (COMENA), Mr. Abdelhamid Mellah, and executives from the ministry and the Chinese corporation.

According to a statement issued by the supervising ministry, the talks focused on the state of cooperation relations between the Atomic Energy Corporation (COMENA) and the Chinese company (CNNC), in the field of nuclear energy and its active and inactive uses for peaceful purposes and prospects for its development.

The two sides also discussed issues related to the development of cooperation, especially in the field of using nuclear technology in medicine and diagnostic imaging procedures, especially with regard to the ongoing talks between the two sides to complete the project to produce radiopharmaceuticals to combat cancer at the level of the Birin Nuclear Research Center CRNB, most of which is within the framework of directing investment in nuclear technologies and applications for medical use.

On this occasion, the two sides also  tackled the outcome of the discussions and talks between the members of the working group, which includes experts from the Atomic Energy Authority and the Chinese Foundation, in order to develop a clear action plan for cooperation based on the data of the current use cases in Algeria of nuclear sciences, technologies and applications in the field of medicine and the fight against cancer.

The two sides finally examined the various areas in which there are opportunities to exchange experiences and develop solutions to common concerns, through the establishment of multidisciplinary working groups in the field of nuclear energy and its active and inactive uses for peaceful purposes.

It is worth noting that the Birin Nuclear Research Center is responsible for carrying out and developing, in particular, the scientific and technical research programs necessary to develop the physics and technology of reactors, measurement and control devices for nuclear facilities, techniques and processes for the production of radioisotopes and neutron applications, nuclear safety, the environment, and the management and treatment of radioactive waste.
