Algerian delegation lived horror at Cairo’s sports-hall
The appeasement attempts initiated by the Egyptian authorities before the kick off of the Africa Nations Handball Championship were just vacuum slogans destined to coax the African Handball Confederation that forced them to protect the Algerian all over the tournament.

The Egyptian fans couldn’t help to hold back their hatred towards the Algerians during the match counting for the first semi –final that opposed Egypt to the Algeria squad the day before yesterday, as they used all means to intimidate the Algerian players at the very moment of their appearance on the pitch.

Scores of Egyptians filled the sports-hall to the capacity rushed in to destabilize the Algeria squad that proved superior to the other side. During the second half the Algerian players were bombarded by bottles from Egyptian fans with aim to play on their nerves after noticing that the Egyptians were not the Algerians’ match.

Algeria squad have lost to the Egyptians 26- 24 thanks, once again to a helping hand from the Romanian referee, after leading most of the time.

The overzealous Egyptian fans didn’t satisfy with the unexpected victory of the team over the Algerians and carried out their cowardly acts after the end of the match, as they attacked the Algerian delegation with bottles breaking the arm of the Algerian doctor Ali Lourrari.

The spiteful and heinous behaviour of the Egyptian fans reached its climax when two of them tried to jump onto the pitch to attack the players, but were “gently” impeached by the security services.

The Algerian fans were not spared from the attacks that echoed the ones that took place last on November in Cairo during the football match counting for the qualification to the World Cup. The uncivilized fans have also burnt the Algerian flag.

An hour and half inside the changing rooms

The Algerian players were forced stay inside the changing rooms for more than an hour and half to avoid being attacked by hysteric fans. They moved to their headquarters at the Arab scouts’ center after the leaving of the Egyptian fans, followed by the Algerian women and children under a state of shock.

In the wake of the event, the Algerian ambassador to Cairo Abdelkader Hadjar has moved to the locations of the Algerian delegation to assist them in their ordeal. The players have related to him their misfortune around a dinner prepared by the embassy, promising to meet them again today before leaving Cairo.
