Algerian families wonder about illegal immigrants jailed in Spain
The Spanish city of Almeria

A total of 12 Algerian families asked Spanish ambassador to Algeria about the whereabouts of their relatives after they had been told they were imprisoned in Almeria.

  •
  • The families say Spanish coast guards caught their relative while they were in clandestine trip on two zodiacs, according to an official request submitted by lawyer Rabeh Berbadj to the ambassador on November 25, 2007.
  • The 16 illegal immigrants who were arrested on September 28 in 2006 appeared in court and sentenced to prison for illegal immigration, foreign media reports say.
  • On the other hand, it is said Spanish authorities deported them to Morocco where they are imprisoned.
  • The ambassador has not replied to the request while the Algerian lawyer said the Spanish diplomat refused to receive him.
  • Moroccan authorities did not confirm the information neither did they deny it.
