Algerian-German Energy Talks
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, accompanied by Sonatrach CEO, Rachid Hachichi, met with the German group Hansen & Rosenthal “H&R” officials, led by its CEO, Niels H. Hansen.
The two parties discussed investment opportunities in Algeria, particularly in the hydrocarbon processing industry.
According to a statement by the relevant ministry, this meeting focused on the cooperation between Sonatrach and the German group in hydrocarbons, particularly in innovative petrochemical and refining industries and technologies. The two parties recently signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct a feasibility study for an industrial project in Algeria.
On this occasion, the minister said that “Algeria is adopting a diversified energy policy, including the development of the petrochemical industry and its various activities, which are considered one of its pillars to better value Algerian’s hydrocarbon resources and achieve high added value, as well as provide oil products on the national market and provide the necessary petrochemical raw materials for the Algerian industry.”
Arkab also stressed the importance of cooperation between Algeria and Germany, which is based on cohesive economic foundations within the framework of a partnership based on mutual economic interests.
The two parties agreed to form a joint working group to develop a roadmap and identify areas of common interest between the two sides, especially in the fuel manufacturing industry.
