Algerian government allocates 20.000b dinars to ensure better health conditions

Algerian government expects the investment of 20b euros, the equivalent of 20.000b dinars during the period between 2009 and 2025, in order to modernize the infrastructure of the health sector, and replace the old health systems with new ones.

  • “The largest investment will be allocated for building new hospitals and health centres as well as health care services. This investment is funded by the government to allow Algeria double the reception level at its hospitals and health care centres to 4.3 beds for each 1000 people,” spokesman of the Ministry of Health Population and Hospital’s Reform, Salim Belkasem say.
  • “Investment plan focused on building modern hospitals specialized in treating chronic diseases including cancer, as well as building new clinics fore children and women in order to ensure large health coverage on the national level, allowing the government to counter the dangerous rise in the number of citizens living with serious non-infectious diseases such as cancer, blood pressure and heart attack. Algeria counts 30.000 cases of cancer each year,” he adds.
  • Non-infectious diseases present 70% of the annual deaths in Algeria. 20 years ago they presented 20%, because of this epidemiological rise Algeria adopts a new program in the health sector which will extend up to 2025.
  • In 2005 Algeria launched a five-year plan worth 3m euros in order to modernize the health sector. 14 new hospitals and 52 clinics were built, 58 other multi-services clinics, 51 health centres and 565 treatment rooms were also established. 14.000 new doctors were formed between 2004 and 2009, which allowed the lifting of numbers doctors from one doctor for every 3464 citizens to one doctor for 2240 citizens. Algerians’ life expectancy also increased from 72.5 years in 2000 to 75.7 years in 2007. In 2000 complications during child birth were killing 1.17% and 0.86% in 2008.
