Algerian government decides cancellation of forums and seminars to protect public funds

Algerian government has decided to start next year, requiring all the institutions and public administrations of different names to give up on the organization of seminars and conferences, along with the reduction of all expenses related to the acquisition of equipments, furniture and cars, etc, and that after reviewing the financial package, that are spent by a number of administrations including the ministerial departments and public institutions in the organization of seminars and study days and conferences with the feasibility of the process, except for advertising.

  • The Ministry of Finance includes its decision to cancel the organization of seminars and conferences, within the framework of implementing its policy on the rationalization of expenditures, and avoid every kind of waste and additional expanses, considering that the economic conditions need caution and the rationalization of the expenditures.
  • Official sources told Echorouk that the majority of public administrations and institutions have received alerts regarding the rationalization and streamline of the disbursement of public funds, particularly those relating to organization of conferences and forums and seminars which consume large sums of money which are comparable sometimes to the cost of financing training courses of the most developed countries, resulting more efficacy and effectiveness.
  • Algeria spends $1.8 billon annually on conferences

  • According to the economic expert at the World Bank, Amhemed Hamidouche, the volume of the expenses of the conferences is identified by the Ministry of Finance at 5% of the total state budget directed to the conduct of institutions or ministries.
  • Accordingly, the amount of money estimated to $8.1 billion, out of 26.2661 billon dinars as the Algerian conduct budget of the current year.
