Algerian illegal immigrants in Italy collect money to build a mosque
Turin

One of the Algerian illegal immigrants, who joined Sardinia in2003, is campaigning to collect money for the building of a mosque in the Italian town, Turin.

  • Hichem (31) who left his home town Annaba (eastern Algeria) has declared willing to do something good to redeem his soul from the sins he committed in the past, including the fact that he left his family and exposed his life to danger without informing his beloved ones especially his mother who died of sorrow.
  • The town’s authorities have granted permission for the erection of the mosque because Turin is home to a large Muslim community including Moroccans and Algerians who settled there coming from France and southern Italy.
  • Turin’s mosque counts among the third existing mosques in Italy after the great mosque of Rome and Milan build recently. Muslims in Italy are facing pressure more than any other place in Europe despite their large number (more than 700 thousands), and many Italians especially in Turin converted to the new religion after the WWII.
  •  The Italian authorities have closed several mosques and forbade the Friday’s prayer arguing that the ritual causes traffic jams and, according to the Italian interior minister Roberto Marroni, these mosques are deprived of basic hygienic and safety conditions; in addition inhabitants complained about noise. Islam is the second major religion in Italy counting 700 thousands while the Jewish community is estimated at 40 thousands.
