Algerian President Bouteflika: reconciliation is top priority

Algerian president Abdelaziz disclosed on Sunday his agenda for the next five years, focusing on how to improve living standards including the creation of three million new jobs.

  • In an address after taking his oath of office, Bouteflika said he is resolved to keep up the endeavour of the National Reconciliation.
  • He hailed the reconciliation process as “allowing for the return of civilian peace and … in the future, contributing to reaffirm social cohesion and guarantee national unity.”
  • “Along with national solidarity efforts toward vulnerable categories, housing, water, energy and health structures will remain on the top of important investment programs,” he added.
  • Speaking on social integration, the president stressed the increasing number of trainees in vocational training, saying the public endeavour in this field will continue.
  • As for economy, Bouteflika said the government will work on boosting investment in public economy and fiscal encouragement of activities.
  • He vowed to step up anti-corruption measures. “The updating of public administration is likely to increase the monitoring efficiency in all levels.”
  • He added that judicial authorities must fully carry out their mission. “Reforms provided the justice the necessary conditions to be more professional, impartial and independent.”
