During the working session that took place last Sunday with his interior minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni, the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika has decided to postpone the Administrative Division plan and ordered his minister to reconsider the criteria he followed to create new constituencies.

  •
  • The president scrapped several new constituencies included in the list forwarded to him by the interior minister arguing that the number was too important and ordered him to reduce it, reliable sources revealed. The suggested division plan includes 110 new constituencies.
  •
  • The president Bouteflika raised the problem of competencies arguing that the country doesn’t the required number of able managers to run these newly created administrations.
  •
  • The same sources revealed that the interior minister was not convinced by the list of the new constituencies worked out by the ministry’s different departments that relied heavily on the political parties’ suggestions.
  •
  •  The interior minister has informed the President that the criteria he followed to design the new administrative division were those related to the demographic density of each region, the number of the localities, the geographical distance and most importantly the strategic situation of these constituencies especially on the borders.
