Algerian sailor smuggled 9 tons of drugs on a ship towards Libya

The appeal court of Oran opened Saturday a file relating to the attempt to smuggle 9 tons of drugs on a ship towards Libya. 

  • The involved in an Algerian sailor, wanted since 10 years ago and arrested last week.

  • The case back to 1999, 36 bags containing 899 kg of drugs were found on a ship for transporting goods from Oran port, west of Algeria, towards Libya. After security services opened investigation it revealed that the real owner was other sailor named “D.N” who was working with a dangerous international network for smuggling drugs.

  • The real drug trafficker was not arrested that’s why justice sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment in absentia. The court pleaded him not guilty IN 2005.

  • The file opened again in 2006 and the court sentenced him to 10 years in absentia and a fine of  50.000 dinars as well as an international arrest warrant against him.

  • he was then arrested last Thursday and stood before justice saying that he has no relation with the drugs that were seized on the ship and that there is an error because his name is similar to the sailor who is working in a well known institution of transporting goods.
