Algerian SNAPAP-Affiliated Unionists On Hunger Strike For 10 Days
Members of PSI affiliate in Algeria, SNAPAP, working in the justice sector, have been on hunger strike since 6th May, following a 21-day work-stoppage in the sector. For ten days now, the hunger strikers have been ignored by the authorities. Their health is in danger and two of them have been hospitalized for intensive care treatment.
- SNAPAP are calling on the government to react to this serious situation and to enter into negotiations with the justice workers’ union. PSI is closely following the situation.
- Public Services International (PSI) strongly denounces the violations of human and trade union rights in Algeria. PSI affiliate the Syndicat National Autonome des Personnels de l’Administration Publique (SNAPAP) has informed PSI of widespread police repression and restrictions on freedom of expression in the country. Trade unionists are harassed with ill-treatments and reprisals in response to their legitimate trade union activities.
