Algerian students clash with Palestinians inside a campus

Skirmishes broke out the day before yesterday in “Bachir Al Ibrahimi” campus in the province of Tlemcen (western Algeria) between Algerian and Palestinian students, prompting the intervention of security forces to calm the situation.

• The Palestinian students shattered doors and burnt several beds located in the Algerian dormitories, reliable sources revealed.

• The head of the campus Abderrehmane Rezki has declared to “Echorouk” that tension eased down at dawn after playing the mediator for long hours between the two parties and succeeded to make an end to the events that started at around 10 pm.

• The conflict broke out inside the campus’ restaurant between the two groups and was triggered by a simple brawl between a Palestinian student and his Algerian counterpart, causing several injuries and serious damage.

• Security forces opened an inquiry to shed light on the real causes behind the tragic events while a complaint has been lodged against 8 Palestinian students and A Yemenite for vandalism.
