The Criminal Court of Algiers proceeded on Monday, to the trial of 14 defendants, including a most dangerous element nicknamed “slaughterer of Daesh” who were in the company of nine others on Syrian land after being recruited as fighters within the ranks of the so-called “Free Syrian Army”, under the guise of providing support and aid to refugees on the Syrian-Turkish borders.

According to the trial’s hearings, a ring of 14 people was dismantled by the Algerian security services on the basis of clues and information received by the latter about attempts to recruit Algerian young people within the “Daesh” terrorist organization.

In so doing, the security services stepped up surveillance and investigation operations, and arrested as a result several suspected people who had reportedly undergone firearms’ training near the Syrian-Turkish border for 8 months before going back to Algeria.

Scientific police for their part also launched, in-depth investigations which resulted in the arrest of four other suspects, and uncovered  in the process digital evidence of the existence of videos and emails urging for so-called “jihad” with the latter attempting to recruit some credulous Algerian youth who may be lured by this nefarious terrorism-linked propaganda.

After the end of the legal proceedings, the criminal Court rendered verdicts ranging between innocence and 3 years in prison for the accused who have been arrested and life imprisonment against 10 other defendants who are still at large overseas.
