Algerians spend more than 300 million dollars on coffee
Algerians consumed 126 thousands and 224 tons of coffee spending 305 million and 613,298 dollars while they consume three billion litres of milk per year with a budget estimated at $600 million.

Figures from the World Trade Organisation show that Algerians are ranked 33 in the world for individual intake of coffee.

They are ranked second in the Arab World following Lebanese people, according to the same source.

The National Centre of Information and Statistics says the Algerian demand for coffee in the world markets went up in 2008 by 10 percent compared to 2007.

“Algeria’s coffee imports are on the rise from year to another,” said the same source.

The budget allocated for coffee import has been increasing by 9 to 10 percent since 2006. It rose to 117 thousands and 824 thousands tons in 2007 compared to 11 thousands and 348 thousands tons in 2006.

Côte d’Ivoire is the first coffee supplier of Algeria with 57,187 tons of coffee import followed by Vietnam with 30,591 tons and Indonesia with 22,618 tons.
