The city of Madrid
Members of the Algerian community in Spain warned against immigrants who swindle unemployment benefit from the government.
- President of the Algerian Immigrants’ Association in Spain Said Ben Rekeya told Echorouk the association launched an awareness-raising campaign among the Algerians living in Spain. They were encouraged to respect the country’s laws and perform their duties.
- “Many Algerians behave in a dishonourable way. They swindle unemployment benefit from authorities without living in Spain.”
- Said Ben Rekeya said out of 60,000 Algerians living in Spain, more than 40,000 get the 426 Euros-unemployment benefit per month. “Many of them leave Spain to stay in Algeria almost permanently. They do not come back to Spain only on the benefit delivery dates. Some of them arrive to the airport to sign attendance and they return to Algeria.”
- He added that men and women swindle the Spanish law and many of immigrant parents preferred to send their families to live in Algeria. They come back to Spain when to the unemployment benefit delivery is conducted.
- Because of that, Spanish authorities reactivated control tools. They stopped granting the benefit to some of the immigrants. Others had to pay parts of the sum estimated at 1,000 to 3,000 Euros.
