Algiers airport receives more than four million passengers

Algiers’ Houari Boumediene airport received four million and 548 thousand passengers in 2009 with an increase of 9.35 percent compared to other international airports, said airport general manager on Monday.

  • “Spanish airlines had an increase of 28 percent followed by German airlines by 24 percent and Canada by 17 percent,” Taher Alache told Echorouk.
  •
  • “French airlines had a considerable increase. The number of passengers from Paris to Algiers’ airport went up by 16 percent. From Marseille, the number increased by 19 percent while from Toulouse, it rose by 31 percent and from Montpelier by 23 percent,” he added.
  •
  • Houari Boumediene airport receives 5 flights from France per day. Of them, four are from Paris and one from Marseille. The daily number of passengers is estimated between 800 and 900. “That shows that the number of passengers coming from France is on the rise.”
  •
  • Alache said a security local commission, the airport managing company, air navigation and customs are considering all airport security-related decisions.
  •
  • The police are expected to prepare a security plan and a special commission will be in charge of keeping watch on its implementation.
  •
  • According to the airport general manager, all the issues of the airport as well as all its unities, offices, buildings and maintenance centres have scanners.
