Algiers counts 5 thousand cleaning workers including university graduates
“Netcom†institution hires over 5000 workers who cover 28 municipalities and forms 1543 agent of cleaning since the establishment of the school of hygiene in 2007, including formation in the technologies of the waste treatment and protection from diseases.

The volume of the waste collected by the institution is 790.000 tons per year, as Algiers has allocated over 150 million dinars for the processing of the institution periodically.

Cleaning workers complain from the daily harassments by some people, as well as the great danger of needles and poisons in the waste especially hospitals’ waste, which do not respect the rules of throwing such toxic waste in their right places; “My colleague lost his sight due to a liquid blown out to his eyes during the cleaning operation in a hospital”, a cleaning worker says.

Algerians leave over 42.000 tons of waste every day, a rate of 1.2 kg per person, while the volume of waste in Algiers, collected by Netcom reaches 1800 tons per day, bringing the number to more than 2100 tons per day in the summer and holiday seasons.

The general director of Netcom institution confirmed that 50% of the public wastes are stolen from our streets regularly, causing loses of more than 5 million dinars to the institution because the citizens do not respect the times of throwing the wastes, some people steal the institution’s equipments.
