Algiers criminal court postpones the case of two Algerians released from Guantanamo

The judge of Algiers criminal court decided Wednesday, December 6, to postpone the consideration of the case of Algerian released from Guantanamo summer 2008 “H.Mostafa” and “H.Sofiane”, following their detention on charges of joining a terrorist group operating abroad as well as forgery, until the last session at the request of the defence. 

• The second accused “H.Sofiane” was injured in his head during the 11 September US attacks in Afghanistan. The medical report by the health services of Guantanamo hospital, handed over to the Algerian authorities, showed that he was a victim of a U.S bombing in Afghanistan, and that he suffers chronic mental illness, as well as degradation of his health conditions, that’s why he needs medical and psychological follow-up.
• Following the postponement of the case, the defence lawyer of the first accused “H.Mostafa” from Bechar, South of Algeria, asked for his provisional release because he was not arrested a demand that was approved by the head of the session.
• The two Algerian accused were arrested by the Pakistani police in 2002 on charges of terrorism, particularly following the suicide bombings on September 11, 2001, signed by Al-Qaeda led by Ossama Ben Laden, on the towers of the World Trade Centre in the USA, then were handed over to the Algerian authorities which transferred them to the military base in Cuba “Guantanamo”, after seven years of investigation and tortures they were handed over to the Algerian authorities, then they have been declared not guilty by the US court.
