Algiers on Top Position in Corruption Crimes, Report

As many as 30 thousand corruption cases have been recorded in the last 5 years, involving 60 thousand people, while 2010 has hit record with more than 3000 cases, on which 7000 people were involved, including 800 foreigners, National Security Department (DGSN) report shows.

 

In fact, in accordance with the implementation of the anti corruption law of 2006, Judicial Police detectives have arrested 1987 people involved in 1009 economy crimes during the first half of 2011, comparing to 1472 cases involving 3076 people, including 128 foreigners, in the same period in 2010. 

The courts looked at 1523 cases related to financial crimes in 2010, while 1523 people were sent to prison, including 675 foreigners of different nationalities. 

The corruption crimes increased by 5.6% in 2010 comparing to 2009 where 3453 cases had been treated, involving 6437 people. 

3015 cases were recorded in 2008, 3019 in 2007, 3000 in 2006, and 2734 cases in 2005, the report shows. 

These crimes vary between offence to the code of government transactions, bribes and corruption. 

Algiers comes on the top list of most regions affected by corruption, as 80% of the aforementioned cases occurred in the capital, while the other 20% occurred in different other provinces.
