Candidate President Abdelaziz Bouteflika obtained 5 supporting signatures and 18,000 signatures of elected people including 298 members of Parliament. This comes as it said that Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN) could not present the signature of all its members as 8,000 only were collected. The other 7,000 members signed for other candidates but the FLN’s honorary president.

According to sources from Candidate Bouteflika’s campaign department, the number of signatures exceeded 3 million. The FLN could not confirm its allegiance to its honorary president as 8,000 signatures only were collected out of 15,000 members of the party. This raises questions about the other 7,000 signatures and for whom they were collected.

A fierce race is going on between allegiance political parties in favor of Bouteflika. The National Democratic Rally (RND) collected 6,698 signatures.
