A major American platform for consulting and future insights predicted that the international hydrocarbons tender recently launched by the Hydrocarbons Valorization Agency “Alnaft” would attract record interest from those wishing to invest in Algeria, given the attractive areas included in the first tender round of its kind in the country since 2014, which were selected with great care.

In this context, the “Horizon Engage” platform, specialized in providing consultations, information, and inquiries for investors in emerging countries regarding political, social, and investment environments, clarified in a post on LinkedIn that after the launch of the new bidding round in Algeria, the Hydrocarbon Resources Valorization Agency has initiated an international promotional tour to attract the interest of international investors and explain the new offers in the field of exploration and research.
It pointed out that the six areas offered in the tender were carefully selected to ensure maximum international participation. The platform accompanied its post with a geographical map of the six areas involved in the 2024 Algeria international hydrocarbons tender.

The international advisory platform considered that the new bidding round in Algeria is receiving significant attention from the country’s top authorities, and its launch took a decade as it is the first since 2014, noting that it is regarded as a real test for the country’s energy sector.

The “Horizon Engage” platform predicted that the international oil tender launched by the Algerian Hydrocarbons Resources Valorization Agency would succeed in attracting new investments to the upstream sector of research, exploration, and drilling in the country, despite the presence of geopolitical risks, which were not mentioned, that could reduce investor interest.

According to the details provided during the announcement of the tender in Oran in mid-last month, only one area has strong oil indicators, located in the Wadi Mya region in the southeast, and its area exceeds 12 square kilometers.

As for the gas fields involved in this tender, they are divided between the southeast and the southwest. In the southeast, there are two fields: the first is the Berkin Basin, which extends over an area estimated at 6,424 square kilometers, and the second is the Ahara Basin in El Oued, with a total area exceeding 17,000 square kilometers.

As for the southwestern peripheries, there are three of them, all for natural gas, located around the areas of Qarar and Reggane, with an area ranging between 36,000 and 40,000 square kilometers.

It is expected, according to the details available to “Echorouk” that the “Alnaft” agency will enable those interested in the tender to access and enter the documents of the international bidding round by the end of this month, as well as access its data room, in addition to starting explanatory sessions regarding the tender and other relevant areas.

The explanatory sessions for the tender will conclude in March 2025, with bids (proposals) to be submitted, opened, evaluated, and the winners announced on April 15, 2025.

A few days ago, the head of the Hydrocarbons Resources Valorization Agency “Alnaft,” Mourad Belhajam, confirmed in statements made in South Africa on the occasion of the Continental Energy Week, that Algeria aims to increase its natural gas production by 20 billion cubic meters annually within the next 5 to 10 years.
