An arsenal of Italian companies to accompany ‘Bonifiche Ferraresi’ in Timimoun, southern Algeria

The Italian group “Bonifiche Ferraresi”, which signed a framework agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to cultivate 36,000 hectares in the governorate of Timimoun to produce hard and soft wheat, seeds and dry legumes, revealed an arsenal of Italian companies that will accompany it in this huge project, which will begin next November with the planting of the first 3,000 hectares for cereal production.
In this regard, a post by the group on its official website, seen by “Echorouk”, stated that its partners/contributors in this project are the Italian seed company S.I.S. Società Italia Sementi S.p.A., a subsidiary of B.F. S.p.A. Bonifiki Ferraresi, for the supply of seeds, Consorzi Agrari d’Italia for the supply of new and modern agricultural equipment, Irritec S.p.A. for the development of a modern and sustainable irrigation system, Ocrim S.p.A. for the construction of conversion facilities, Giorgio Tissi Group for nursery activities, Farchioni Olii and S.p.A. for the construction of conversion facilities. Diagram for digitalization, Acea for water resources technologies, in addition to Biosyntex and Salvi Group.
The publication pointed out that the first activities related to this project in 2024 will be digging and building wells, as it is essential and necessary to establish a modern distillation irrigation system, with the aim of improving the use and adaptation of agricultural activity to the climate changes that affect Algeria, which is considered one of the countries most affected by high temperatures. the heat.
Among the operations that will begin in 2024, the Italian company adds, the start of the first phase of agricultural activities, with the plowing and sowing of the first 3,000 hectares with cereals (no details were given regarding them), out of a total of 36,000 hectares granted in November 2024.
The project, which the company describes as the largest and most important Italian investment to date in a high-tech regenerative agriculture project in the southern Mediterranean, envisages the creation of an integrated supply chain of seeds and finished products, entirely developed and managed by BF Spa with some shareholders/industrial partners and in collaboration with important local institutions such as the Algerian National Investment Fund, in the area called Timimoun El-Kebir 01.
The publication explained that when the project is fully operational by 2028, 70 percent of the granted area (36 thousand hectares) will be planted with durum wheat and soft wheat, and the remaining part will be allocated to legumes such as lentils, beans, etc., and the production will be allocated to the local Algerian market.
As part of the investments in the sector, the Bonifiche Ferraresi project in Algeria, according to the same publication, includes a series of actions and programs for the training of current and future Algerian professionals, which will include the responsible BF Educational Company, a subsidiary of the BF Group, with the aim of improving scientific training applied in the field of agriculture and agribusiness, through the development of projects in collaboration with Algerian research and academic institutions.
The Italian group explained that it will also benefit from all the industrial partners of the group, in addition to the professionals and researchers of the network of Italian agricultural unions Consorzi Agrari d’Italia S.p.A., the academies and research centers that form part of its network, and the expertise of young entrepreneurs of the Coldiretti organization, considered the largest professional association of farmers in Italy.
