Annaba-based “Fertial” Company Refutes Charges Pertaining To Safety Measures
Fertilizer-manufacturing Company “Fertial” confirmed that it has completed the study for the burial underground of the Ammoniac pipeline passing through the seybouse district towards the port of Annaba (eastern Algeria) as part of the Company’s strategy to adapt to its environment and to end the controversy about the dangers of the relevant pipeline and the tarnishing of the local public landscape.
The Company replied to accusations leveled by civil society activists, including the office of the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights in Annaba province, about the environmental and health hazards that the company’s industrial activity is leaving on the region and citizens, arguing that the Company has been conducting specific inspections to verify the condition of the equipment between 2015 and 2016.
In response to the serious condition of the reservoir, the “Fertial” Company said it is dealing with two companies charged with reviewing all safety measures by ensuring control and protection procedures under the supervision of the Deputy Director General of Ammonia, Gonzalo Fernández, in compliance with Algerian legislation which provides for regular reviews and tests.
For its part, the office of the Association of Human Rights in Annaba, said in a correspondence that the company’s tank factory poses a danger to the region, and that the Ammoniac tube carrier is vulnerable to leaks, with the most serious incident in this connection happening in 2009, in addition to the unpleasant smells gushed by chimneys provoking a toxic atmosphere in the region during all that period.
