Anti-terrorist security apparatus for Ramadhan 2009 crowned with success
The security plan set up by the combined forces of the National Popular Army (ANP) during the holy month of fasting of Ramadhan this year in Algeria was crowned with success with a significant decline in terrorist actions by elements of “Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat” (GSPC) under the command of “Abdelmalek Droudkel” alias “Abou Moussab Abdelwadoud” across the national territory.

The strategy adopted by the security forces proved to be most fruitful notably in the eastern provinces of Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou where residual GSPC terrorists, still active there, were caught in a tight security stranglehold clamped down by ANP elements in these 2 sensitive regions which still witness, now and then, sporadic terrorist attacks.

The ANP High Command has worked out, in conjunction with other security bodies, a stringent security plan during the whole month of Ramadhan by stepping up anti-terrorist combing operations in various parts of the country and beefing up security check-points in and around the country’s main urban centers including the capital Algiers.

Furthermore, a heightened vigilance on the part of the population allowed the security forces to foil a number of terrorist attacks notably in Leguata in the region of Boumerdes as well as in the Tizi Ouzou area where several GSPC terrorists were put out of action.

Several back-up terrorism cells were also dismantled and several arrests were made as part of this drastic security plan for Ramadhan 2009, which has proved to be the most peaceful month in Algeria since the outbreak of terrorist violence in the early 90’s.
