“Algeria’s hard-won independence was the result of the sacrifices and resistance of its people through a great historical revolution,” the Emirati Minister of state for Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash, tweeted, Wednesday on his Twitter account.

Mr. Anwar Gargash’s statement followed a bitter controversy that arose at the International Book Fair in London, with the ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan Qassimi lamely dubbing “the independence of Algeria as being offered by Charles-De-Gaulle to the Algerians so as to satisfy Gamal Abdel Nasser”.

The Emirati foreign Minister pointed out that “The Algerian Revolution is among the most important chapters of national liberation and a distinguished mark in the dismantling of the European colonial era, the legendary sacrifice of the people has allowed for the wrenching of freedom and independence,” he added.

The Algerian Revolution goes beyond its Arab dimension, stressed the Emirati foreign minister, saying that this does not exclude the roles provided by countries, personalities and peoples who supported this glorious Revolution.

It should be noted that Sheikh Qassimi’s unacceptable denigration remarks about the lofty Algerian Revolution touched off a widespread wave of indignation and ire on the part of countless Algerians through social networking sites.
