“Arcelor Mittal” syndicate calls for the nationalization of Hadjar compound by 100%
Hadjar Iron and Steel compound’s syndicate lifted a proposal to the government that includes the nationalization of the compounds’ ratio, which shares are owned by the Indian partner “Arcelor Mittal”, because of what they described as the inability of the latter to solve the problems of workers.
It calls at the same time for the need to nationalize this section to become an Algerian company by one hundred percent.
Over 320 workers at the institution of pipe industry which belongs to Hadjar compound in Annaba (eastern Algeria), launched an open-ended work strike, denouncing what they described as the company’s injustice and its refusal to realize their social demands, which disrupted the work of the company and blocked the supply of “Sonatrach” and “Sonelgaz” from the necessary equipment, especially since this institution is the only pipeline supplier in Algeria, as confirmed by Farah Lotfi, the syndicate’s Secretary General at “Arcelor Mittal” who told Echorouk that the decision to launch an open-ended strike was taken by the workers, after a series of negotiations with the administration, which ended without reaching an agreement, especially those related to social demands for more than 320 workers.
“Members of the Syndicate Board have already given a final deadline to the Directorate-General and the General Director to realize the workers’ social and professional demands, but they reneged on their promises and obligations with the social partner, what made them ask for discussing the issue of the factory’s nationalization. A report was lifted to the government on the review of the overall issue of nationalization of the iron and steel complex.”
