Armed forces foil an attempted to smuggle war weapons, ammunition across the border

Algeria National People’s armed forces succeeded, on Monday, in foiling an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, and retrieved a number of machine guns, pistols, Kalashnikovs, rifles and ammunition of various calibers.

According to a statement that is issued by the National Defense Ministry, which copy was received by Echorouk; “In the framework of border security and the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachment of the National People’s Army which belong to the operational sector of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, in the Sixth Military Region, foiled, on Monday at 12:30, an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.”

The operation was successful after a monitoring patrol near the border, as it enabled the discovery of a cache where 11 Kalashnikovs, an FMPK machine gun, 4 semi-automatic rifles of the type SIMINOV and considerable quantity of ammunition of different calibers.

A detachment of the National People’s Army that belongs to the Djelfa operational sector and the 1st Military Region, arrested on Sunday, after the exploitation of information and coordination with members of the national gendarmerie, 7 weapons’ traders, and seized 5 rifles, 7 hunting rifles and 10,000 cartridges, a truck and a business vehicle.

In the Second Military Region, members of the National Gendarmerie of Tlemcen (western Algeria) arrested a smuggler, and seized 8270 liters of fuel, 3 fishing rifles and 4 tourism cars.

In the same context, a detachment that belongs to the operational sector in the south of Tindouf, in the 3rd military region, arrested two smugglers and seized a truck that was loaded with 4800 liters of fuel.

In the 4th military region, two detachments of the operational sectors of Ouargla and Ghardaia, arrested 13 illegal immigrants during a patrol, and members of the border guards of Taref operational sector in the 5th Military Region  province arrested 7 smugglers, and seized 3626 liters of fuel, white weapons and mobile phones, while two detachments of the operational sectors of Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Ain Guezzame  in the 6th Military Region arrested 21 smugglers and seized two four-wheel cars, 718 kg of food, and 3 electric generators.
