Attempt by nine Algerian illegal immigrants to enter France foiled
Algerian border guards caught 9 men Wednesday trying to smuggle themselves from the port of Algiers to France.

The men were hiding in a container on IRSA European ship going to Valence and Marseille. One of those people’s brothers contacted the Police in Algiers after his brother had called him, saying the men fainted because of a lack of oxygen.

The Police mobilised all its forces to look for the men inside the ship. They found 7 of them in a serious state. They were hospitalised while the two others were taken to the Borders Police Centre in Algiers for investigation.

Sources said the men living in Algiers are aged between 18 and 25. They were wearing sports clothes and were carrying bags and food sufficient for days.

It is the first time that an illegal immigration attempt with such a number of people has been foiled. The latest attempt took place, two months ago.
