Attempt to smuggle 480,000 euros foiled in Algiers airport
Algiers airport authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle 480,000 euros Saturday on an aircraft of Air Algerie coming from Dubai across Tunisia, an official at the airport told Echorouk.
-
“A flight attendant was caught with a sum of 480,000 euros he was trying to smuggle to Algeria.”
-
“Another flight attendant was arrested for attempting to smuggle 38,000 euros abroad,” the official added.
-
Security forces at the airport stepped up surveillance measures by using new techniques and sophisticated cameras.
-
Previously, Air Algerie’s pilots rejected a decision to set up a scanner at the airport while the air company said the device was meant to catch smugglers.
-
The scanner was taken off after Air Algerie and the staff’s representatives made a deal to end the disagreement.
