Baccalaureate 2016: Algeria blocked social media websites in favour of candidates
Algerian post minister Imene Houda Feraoun Tuesday said the Internet was not cut but its speed was reduced during the Baccalaureate exam days. This aims at foiling any attempt to perturb the exams or cheat.
The minister told Algeria News Agency the most important social media websites were blocked and the Internet speed was reduced.
“The government has all the prerogatives to take any measures in emergency cases. Algeria is not the first country which did that,” she added.
Speaking about the use of VPN by Internet users, Feraoun said this system would have serious impact on emails.
This comes as the government reorganized the Baccalureate exams once again as most of the questions were leaked on the Internet.
