Bad Weather: 7 Killed, Heavy Heater Gas Supply Disruption, Humanitarian Spirit Displayed
At least seven people died in road accidents and gas asphyxia provoked by the unprecedented severe weather sweeping in Algeria.
National Gendarmerie’s road security section said 14 deadly accidents occurred during the last 72 hours, killing 4 people in Relizene, Oran, Tlemcen and Adrar, while 22 others were injured.
Meanwhile, the nonstop snowfall along 30 provinces in the northern part of the country, blocked several national and secondary roads, triggering however a heavy disruption in food, heater gas and electricity supply in isolated villages.
Elsewhere, Fire-fighting services said in a statement that three people died from gas asphyxia, including two men in Setif and an old woman in Boumerdes.
The statement added that a youngster is reported missing after being taken by waters of Sefsaf river in Skikda province.
Yet, the humanitarian spirit of Algerians has been displayed once more, as goodhearted people rushed for the help of victims of this bad weather, including homeless people, those who were forced out of their decaying houses and those trapped with their cars in the middle of the snow.
